Edie Brickell has offered her soulful sound as a lead vocalist to a variety of groups over the years. Originally the lead singer of the New Bohemians which was later changed to Edie Brickell & New Bohemians when the group was signed to a record label in 1988, Edie Brickell offers a unique sound that brings forth a style of music that has covered several different genres of music. The music and her voice have matched up to become Alternative Rock, Bluegrass, Folk Rock, Jangle Pop, Jam Rock, New Wave, Neo-phychedelia and Pop Rock to give us a variety of sounds that have led to some amazing success.
With this wide variety of sounds, Brickell has been the voice we hear on soundtracks to several movies including Born on the Fourth of July and Flashback. The group released two albums in the 1980s, Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars, which offered a pop music sound that offered the first hit single for the group “What I Am” and really began their overall success, and then Ghost of a Dog, which brought us a more eclectic style of play and a sound that showed the overall personality of the band.
After meeting in 1988 during a performance by Brickell on Saturday Night Live, Edie Brickell and Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel were married in 1992 and began a family. All through the years of marriage and while working to raise three children, the couple have stayed active. Brickell continued to perform and tour throughout her married life, enjoying the success and support she receives from her talents and her family. Even after becoming married and starting a family she released Picture Perfect Morning, Volcano and Stranger Things, which was an album she was able to release with the original members of the New Bohemians in 2006.
Currently Brickell tours with Steve Martin and his group the Steep Canyon Rangers. They collaborated on an album Love Has Come For You which was released in 2013 and promoted by both Brickell and Martin on shows such as The View and Late Show with David Letterman to bring the album to the public to enjoy. Their tour continues throughout North America, offering a personal look at the music and this highly successful musical collaboration. Edie Brickell is still one of the most active musical talents in the industry, giving us her music to fully enjoy.
